Berkshire Hockey Clubs

Are you are wondering whether hockey is for you or your family? Perhaps you've played before and want to get involved again. Berkshire has big variety of clubs playing great hockey. They cover all standards and age ranges.... but they all have one thing in common, they are always happy for new people to come along and try them out.

  • Maidenhead Hockey Club
    Maidenhead Hockey Club Logo

    Founded in 1904 Maidenhead Hockey Club runs Men's and Ladies' sides every Saturday. These sides compete in regional and local leagues and provide opportunities for all ages and abilities. Coaching resources are available to all their members. They also enter a number of cup competitions for men, women, mixed and veterans on both a national and regional level, with these games usually being held on a Sunday. Their thriving Colts community trains chiefly on a Sunday morning and caters for boys and girls from Under-8s to Under-18s. Their dedicated team of coaches has produced numerous players who have gone on to compete at the highest level, including Matt Daly and Jon Potter.

    The club has access to two quality astroturf pitches in Maidenhead, their own water based pitch at Altwood School and a sand-dressed pitch, run by Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead, at Braywick. Their clubhouse offers members the chance to relax and enjoy some light refreshments in its scenic location in Bray, by the River Thames.

  • Newbury & Thatcham Hockey Club

    Newbury & Thatcham Hockey Club is a well-established club on the edge of West Berkshire at Henwick Lane, Thatcham, RG18 3BN. The club run Mens/Ladies senior teams, mixed teams, and a thriving junior section. The aim of the club is to offer competitive hockey and a fun and inclusive social scene, where new members of any age or ability are welcome. The club is currently working in partnership with the local community towards the construction of a second astro pitch and has it's own clubhouse alongside the astro on the Henwick site.

  • Phoenix Reading Hockey Club

    Formerly known as Phoenix & Ranelagh HC, the newly renamed Phoenix Reading Hockey Club is a fun, family, ClubMark approved hockey club based at the University of Reading SportsPark. The club has three Men’s and three Ladies teams, and a thriving Junior section for children aged 5 to 16. The club pride themselves on an inclusive approach with high quality fun coaching that supports every player in their development journey. Small enough to be able to provide individual coaching attention, but big enough to give players lots of opportunities, the Club fully supports Berkshire Hockey player development programmes and competes in the South Central league area. Junior training is on Sunday mornings with adults training on Wednesday and Thursday evening, and all sessions are held at the University of Reading.

     

  • Reading Hockey Club

    Reading is one of the premier hockey clubs in the country and one of 17 clubs in the country awarded a license as an England Hockey Talent Academy for talented 15 to 18 year olds. The club enjoys a high profile throughout the national and local media. With two elite teams in the English Hockey League the club’s playing representatives cover the length of the country. Both elite squads are at the very pinnacle of the domestic game and brimming with international talent. The club runs a large number of men's and ladies teams and has a flourishing Next Generation junior section. The club is based at a top-class facility in Sonning Lane, one mile East of Reading, with water-based and sand-based Astroturf pitches on site.

  • Scarlet Runners Ladies Hockey Club
    Scarlet Runners Hockey Club Logo

    Scarlet Runners Ladies Hockey Club is a small and friendly club that has been running for over 100 years, new players of any age or ability always welcome.

    Training takes place every other Monday and home games are at Bradfield College, Bradfield. Post-match essential cuppa and cake is enjoyed.

    Slough hockey club has highly successful ladies', men's and junior squads and new players are welcome, at all ages and levels of ability. They have an extensive history of winning honours both at National and European level with many club players having represented their country at International level. The club's success is due to the dedication of its members and supporters and it is the junior section, who define the club moving forward. Significant efforts are made by the club to offer a carefully controlled, child safe environment to encourage development of the junior players.

    The club's team spirit is based on a blend of youth and experienced players; combined with a rich mixture of cultures and backgrounds. These together have formed values of success and friendship.

    Sonning are a friendly and sociable Reading-based hockey club with a thriving membership in Mens, Ladies, Juniors and Mixed hockey. Home of the famous Sonning Hockey Festival and part of Berkshire County Sports Club.

  • South Berkshire Hockey Club
    South Berkshire Hockey Club Logo

    South Berkshire Hockey Club boasts 6x Mens, 4x Ladies, Mixed and Vets teams. They also have a strong developing junior section for all ages from 6+. The club was recently formed between established local community clubs Bracknell and Wokingham and are ClubFirst accredited.

  • Windsor Hockey Club

    A men's, ladies and junior hockey club based in Windsor that has been around since 1925. Windsor Hockey Club offers players of any age, standard or ability the opportunity to play hockey.

    Windsor pride themselves on being a very friendly, welcoming club and members are encouraged at any time during the season, so why not go along to one of their training sessions and give them a try! Their junior academy trains on Sunday mornings at Eton College (Willowbrook), making the most of top quality facilities on offer.

    The junior academy has a deliberately low player to coach ratio, allowing players to develop in a caring, nurturing yet fun environment to their highest ability.
